A detox tends to promote the release of things that get into our bodies and disrupt the healthy function of our hormones, organs, cells, and lymphatic system. When they are released from areas in our body, we can experience fatigue, irritability, nausea, or other discomforts as part of the detoxification process.

As our body parts release toxins, it’s important to drink plenty of fluids to enable our systems to let go of the toxins through natural elimination. During this process, it’s also a time for our emotional selves to release things that are causing build up and restricting our ability to be fully present and happy as well. While drinking water helps us to flush tangible toxins, it’s critical we incorporate practices that enable us to flush energetic toxins. Doing this improves our mental health, brightens our moods, and allows us to move through life with ease, positivity, and abundance.

The following are activities that will increase your consciousness about your mental and emotional health, and can aid in the release of emotional toxins that have built up over time.

Focus on your sleep

Eating well, drinking water, and getting exercise all provide similar benefits to our wellbeing. Sleep, however, is irreplaceable in the role it plays in our physical and mental health.

When we sleep, our body does repair and maintenance to all functions of the body and brain. It is the only time that human growth hormone is generated, which tends to muscles tendons and ligaments, going around the body mending areas that need attention. Sleep enables the brain to reboot and supports a healthy metabolism. It should not be overlooked, as it plays an enormous role in supporting us in everything we do.

Having an evening ritual that involves journaling, drinking tea, deep breathing, taking a bath, or anything that puts you in the mindset for a sound night’s sleep can do wonders for your wellbeing. Even just five minutes on concentrated effort towards calming your mind and body will set you up for restorative and deep sleep.

Release negative thoughts and emotions

Carrying around negative thoughts and emotions every day is extremely detrimental to our health. These include things like: I’m not good enough, I hate my boss, my boyfriend doesn’t really love me, I’m fat, I’m tired, I’m sick of my friends etc. They include negative thoughts about others, our circumstances, and ourselves. While you may think of them just as part of life, thought creates matter, and these kinds of thoughts take up our mental space and prevent us from moving forward in our lives.

The first step to dissolving these thoughts is to recognize them. Whether we are criticizing another, or ourselves, recognizing the thought and working to understand why we feel that way is key to breaking the pattern.

Negative thoughts create stress, slow down our ability to process emotions and situations, and weigh us down mentally and emotionally. By seeking to recognize and release our negative thought patterns, we can create an undisturbed peace within and purify our hearts and minds to bring us closer to our innate and true perfection.

Do a relationship inventory

The relationships that we keep either nourish or deplete us. Different relationships give us more than others, and certain times we give more to others than they give to us.

What’s critical is to be aware of the weight we put on each relationship and to be realistic about our expectations and the level of happiness we experience in each one.

Relationships with friends, family, and lovers should be uplifting and joyful. If the thought of seeing someone or taking a call from them makes you anxious, it’s probably time to reevaluate the quality of that relationship. It’s ok to let go of people that don’t improve your life, and it’s ok to say no to people that want things that you don’t want to give.

Holding on to relationships for the wrong reason drains your energy and creates insincere connections that don’t nurture your life or your spirit. Take actual time to think about what relationships support and uplift you, and know that those are how all of your relationships should be. Letting go of people that don’t serve you is not selfish, it simply allows you to show up more sincerely for yourself and for others. The way we let others treat us reflects the value we hold of ourselves, and affects the way we evolve.

Tending to your emotional health and evaluating the metaphysical side of your life through these practices will enhance your detox, and create a deeper connection to your vitality and genuine joy.
