1. Turmeric
Turmeric is a wonder herb. It’s an extremely powerful anti-inflammatory, important in reducing the effects of stress and poor diet, and has been proven to reduce arthritis and joint paints immensely. Inflammation is the source of most sickness, ranging from a common cold to cancer. A typical diet of refined sugars and processed foods tends to encourage inflammation, making it important to balance your system with anti-inflammatory foods. If you buy the root, you can easily juice turmeric or cook it into a soup. In powder form it’s great to add to tea or a smoothie, or used to make a salad dressing. Incorporating turmeric into your diet will help you stay vibrant and ward of sickness for years to come.
2. Cilantro
Cilantro is a potent detoxifer and works to pull heavy metals like mercury and lead from our blood, tissues, and organs. Heavy metals build up in our system from exposure to chemicals, pollution, and impure foods, which can lead to serious health complications over time. A compound in cilantro binds to heavy metals and enables them to be flushed from the body. Add cilantro to a salad, salsa, or soup, or in a beet juice. This little herb will do wonders for you.
3. Cinnamon
Cinnamon is an incredible herb for many reasons, but particularly for its ability to regulate blood sugar. Incorporating it into your meals is a great way to ensure that the protein and sugars from your food is distrubted into your body over time, instead of all at once. This helps your stay full, focused, and sufficiently nourished for an extended period of time. Try it in a smoothie or oatmeal, or add it to your coffee for natural sweetness.
4. Garlic
Garlic is a very drying herb so it’s excellent for a cold or any kind of congestion, as it dries mucus and quckly cleanses your system. If I feel a cold coming on, I’ll swallow a clove of diced garlic so that I won’t taste it but will get a very strong and pure dose of recovery food. A few good ways to enjoy it every day are to make a bruschetta with it, add it to a morning scramble or frittata, or a make a garlic hummus dip.
Herbs are superfoods and their benefits are vast, so find which ones you enjoy and experiment with incorporating them into your diet.
