Juicing is trending lately, and rightfully so. It’s an exceptional way to boost your health and get your daily dose of fruits and veggies in a delicious way. We practice yoga to strengthen our bodies and minds, flush emotional and environmental toxins, and to improve our overall quality of life. Incorporating juicing into your regimen reinforces all of us this, and does wonders for your practice and beyond. Here’s why:
1. Provides Prana
- Prana is the life force with which we do everything. This life force comes from the earth so by eating fresh and energy rich foods from the ground we nourish and enhance this force
Specifically: All veggies, nuts, seeds and fruits from the earth
2. Improves focus and brain health
- Stabilizes hormones that regulate hunger, sleep, energy and other critical bodily functions
- Increases blood flow to the brain
- Reduces oxidative stress on the brain and improve overall health and recovery of brain cells
- Makes communication between brain cells more efficient
Specifically: Cucumber, beets, watermelon, fennel
3. Heals your skin
- Flushes toxins that cause oxidative stress leading to collagen loss, discoloring, loss of elasticity, and aging
- Reduces sun damage from the inside out and protects your skin from future damage
- Accelerates cell regeneration and oxygenation
Specifically: Grapefruit, carrots, oranges, turmeric
4. Enables weight loss
- Stabilizes appetite by making hormones work at optimal levels, reducing hunger and excessive eating
- Efficiently digested so everything is used as fuel and nothing contributes to weight gain
- Improves efficacy of organs like liver and kidneys to properly eliminate toxins and waste that linger in the body
Specifically: Celery, beets, spinach, cucumber
5. Energizes you
- Provides nutrients with very little digestion necessary, which is the most energy intensive process of the body
- Facilitates elimination of waste that lingers in your system and weighs you down
- Flushes harmful toxins that sap energy and cause lethargy
Specifically: Celery, apple, kale, ginger
What about fiber?
When talking about juicing, many people tend to challenge its health gains by insisting that the lack of fiber content makes the benefits questionable. I agree, fiber is an essential nutrient. However, if you’re mindful enough to be juicing, you probably eat a diet rich in fiber already. If you feel like you don’t get enough fiber, incorporate more leafy greens into your diet or try adding ground flax to various meals. The lack of fiber in a juice is not a viable reason to avoid this incredible healthy practice.
