Malasana is a deep grounding posture creating the downward flow (apana  vayu) associated with elimination. This posture brings about peace, calmness and the rooting or grounding integral to our connection with self trust and the earth. Malasana, or the Yogi Squat, requires full range of motion in our hips, pelvis, knees, legs and ankles. The downward flow of gravity helps us with the elimination of bodily waste to cleanse our body and free it of unnecessary heaviness and systemic congestion.

Malasana opens our, muladhara, the  beautiful red root chakra located at the base of the spine, pelvic floor. Here is our center of trust, safety, and sensuality. Balancing our Root Chakra will bring about self-security and empowerment, giving us the ability to trust ourselves and our natural intuition, free us of self-doubt and unnecessary inhibitions impeding our growth.

The cleansing mantra for the root chakra is LAM. Deeply inhale and as you exhale, chant this resonating mantra LAM.

Namaste and Bless You!
