The summer markets are packed with the most vibrant fruits and veg right now, and the pairings couldn’t be more perfect. During the summer months, we need cooling, hydrating and nourishing foods that keep us energized and glowing. Because so many of us spend these months enjoying the weather and time outdoors, it’s important we take measures to protect our skin from sun damage and to stay amply hydrated. This juice is packed with nutrients and serves all our summer needs.

1 c. Watermelon

1 c. Strawberries

½ Grapefruit

2 Small Cucumbers

Handful mint leaves

Major benefits of this juice:

Beta-carotene

Beta-carotene is a carotenoid that gives foods their bright color, and contributes to a glowing, luminescent complexion. Found in grapefruits, watermelons, and other bright fruits and vegetables, beta-carotene is converted into vitamin-A, or retinol in the body. Vitamin-A is an antioxidant that protects cells against damage from free radicals that lead to oxidation and accelerated aging. It can reduce visible signs of aging such as wrinkles, and acts as sun protection from the inside out.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is critical not only for a healthy immune system but for vibrant and healthy skin. Our bodies produce it naturally, but over time things like pollution, stress, and UV rays deplete our natural resources. We can replenish our reserves with the right foods however, like strawberries, watermelon, lemons and grapefruits.

Vitamin C is critical in collagen production, the protein that gives our skin its elasticity. Stabilizing collagen production with sources plentiful in vitamin C will help promote firm and plump skin.

Electrolytes

Electrolytes are necessary for maintaining healthy levels of energy in our cells, heart, and muscle tissues. Low levels of electrolytes- ie magnesium, potassium, sodium, chloride, calcium- can lead to dehydration, muscle cramping, and fatigue. Cucumbers and watermelon are rich sources of water and electrolytes. They help your system flush toxins quickly and enable all of the functions of your body, including the nervous system and organ processes, to work to their highest potential.

Electrolytes are also essential in maintaining the acid/alkaline balance in our system. This is central to maintaining your internal equilibrium, and in keeping potential health risks at bay. Staying properly hydrated and preserving a healthy balance of micronutrients and macro-minerals will sustain your inner harmony and outer radiance.

Take on the rest of the summer in good health by providing yourself with the right nutrients from vibrant and wholesome sources. Eating foods that are in line with the seasons and the rhythm of the earth will give you abundant energy and ensure that you thrive.
