Students with scoliosis have either an “S” curve or a “C” curve in the spine which requires a special approach to asana. Since the right and left sides are not symmetrical, each side should be practiced differently.

Triangle pose, due its symmetry, is one of my favorite poses to teach students with scoliosis. In the following clip, a student with scoliosis demonstrates how a skillful approach to triangle can shift the curve to alleviate some associated pain and discomfort.

The whole class is 20 minutes and has some great tips on working with students with scoliosis. The camera captures the smallest details to help you see the transformation in the student as I talk her through the variations of the poses.
