Debasish Chaudhuri is one of the most well known and acclaimed tabla teacher and players from Kolkata, India. He is now based in Los Angeles, CA. He began learning from the age of five from the late Pandit Nanku Maharaj of Benaras and subsequently from the late Pandit Kanai Dutta of the Farukkabad gharana. For more than forty years, Debasish has been under the noble guidance of his guru and uncle world-renowned tabla maestro Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri of the Lucknow Gharana.
Debasish has performed in many concerts in India and in the United States, including tabla solos, percussion ensembles and has been accompanied by various world-renowned instrumentalists and vocalists namely Pandit V.G. Jog, Pandit Jasraj , Pandit Manas Chakraborty, Ustad Aashish Kha, Ustad Shahid Parvej, Ustad Nishat Khan and also with tabla maestro Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri to name a few. Debasish is an ‘A’ graded artist of All India Radio. He has a Sangeet Pravakar certification in tabla, an acclaimed Indian diploma in the field of Indian Classical Music .
Debasish regularly teaches tabla in Los Angeles, CA and Phoenix, AZ. He is one of the board of directors of Rupak School of World Music, the LA-based, non- profit cultural arts organization, founded by Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri which promotes pure forms of Indian Classical and World Music.
